'Without water, we die'

Somalia is at the frontline of the global climate crisis.

After five consecutive failed rainy seasons, Somalia is already in its longest historic drought, with harvests and livestock now decimated in a country already crippled by twenty years of civil war. In 2022 alone, over one million Somalis fled rural villages for rapidly growing protected aid camps. The U.N. estimates that over 4 million farm animals have perished since the beginning of 2021. For herders and villagers in the rural regions of Somalia, this is a disaster of unprecedented magnitude, with famine a deadly reality in 2023.
