For centuries, Gotipua has been performed, in Orissa India, by boys who dress up as girl. This art is fading away, some teachers are disappearing others resign... Because the first problem is the disaffection of the audience who is attracted by other things and when the artist has no audience, he die, his art die. This photo is part of a long-term research and archival work, to reflect a diversity in performing arts that is disappearing.
To me theater is also about trying to understand a little bit of Humanity.

Lucas Dragone (b. 1981) is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning photographer whose work traverses the boundary between the poetic and the documentary, the intimate and the universal. His journey into the visual arts is deeply rooted in a rich background in performance, theatre, and human connection, an evolution that speaks to a lifelong quest to understand and portray the complexities of the human condition.
