I am a Ukrainian living in Switzerland with my husband and four pets. After the beginning of war in Ukraine I also have my mother staying with us. Since February 24, 2022 we learned to live with a new reality. For many it was a year in limbo – incapable or holding up to live. If this year showed me anything, it would be the importance of love – to your family, to your friends, to people needing help. Love always seemed like such a banal subject to me, excessively talked about, excessively photographed. So to correct this I made this “Love” series about my family

Ukrainian-born, Swiss-based photographer, Julia Wimmerlin weathered seismic shifts in her artistic journey from travel to contemporary mixed-media. The 2021 travel ban amid COVID-19 and the 2022 war in Ukraine profoundly impacted her, leading to a metamorphosis in her photographic approach. Delving into contemporary fine art photography, she's embarked on an exploration of longer-term research projects, seeking to comprehend the unfolding events around her and her evolving role within them.
