On November 27th, 2022, the world’s largest volcano erupted for the first time in 38 years. Flying nearly 13,000 feet above the sea, I documented this sacred event from an open-air helicopter on Hawaiʻi island. Through intimate, aerial perspectives, these photographs capture the history of Mauna Loa's eruption, and the thrilling metamorphosis of our living Earth. The inexorable flow of lava through one of the most awe inspiring landscapes reveals interplay of mortality and vitality, death and life – a vision into the past, the present, and the future. If the Earth can change, so can we.
