River Guardians

The Thames Barrier is a remarkable piece of industrial engineering and stretches over 520 metres across the river Thames in London. The barrier took 8 years to construct at a cost of £535 million. With parts of London susceptible to flooding, the barrier when raised stands as high as a 5 storey building and provides vital protection to approx 48 square miles of the city.

I elected to capture a long exposure at high tide and processed in a black and white fine art style to enable the barrier to be the main focus of attention for the viewer

I live in Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland and my creative journey has evolved over the years. My main interest is architectural photography. Over the past few years I have become more immersed in the Black and White Fine Art genre and predominately focus my time and attention into learning and developing more of my photography in this field.
