Tata Steel NL has announced a 300M€ environmental package. Together with the Dutch Government, they laid out the CO2 reduction ambitions in an Expression of Principles document, targeting a 40% reduction by 2030, 5M tonnes a year. Tata Steel NL submitted a permit application to the Noord-Holland Province and involves: a. capturing CO2 from the IJmuiden blast furnaces and storing it in empty North Sea gas fields b. using by-product gases from blast furnaces to produce 100,000 tonnes of hydrogen a year, make steel and supply a national future hydrogen network.
