In the spring of 2018, I vacationed in Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Tofino is very popular with surfers because of its many sandy beaches. Most mornings I started the day with a long beach walk. Chesterman beach was my favourite with its rugged raw beauty and the sea mist coming from the pacific ocean. There were always surfers on the long part of the beach but this particular morning they tried their luck on this rocky wild corner, and I was lucky to be there and to take this photograph.
I am a self taught photographer inspired by the different places where I grew up . Born in the Netherlands, I moved every three years, and when I was 12 years old, I lived on Curaçao, an island in the Caribbean, where I bought my first camera and from that time on photography has always been a part of me.
I try to take photographs that call attention to daily things that other people overlook; my goal is to share my ‘eye’ and to show how everything we take for granted can actually become exceptional, which elevates the spirit, emotion, and thought.
In 2004 I moved to Kingston, Canada.
