At the beaches of Dakar, remarkable scenes take place in the morning and evening hours. One can see men and women come to the shores and beaches of Senegal's capital to work out. They do gymnastics, jog in the sand, play soccer, volley ball, basket ball, squash and wrestling, which is the national sport in Senegal. One may be surprised to see this in a West African country where 95% of the population are Muslim, as in some neighboring countries like Mauretania sports are almost forbidden. In Senegal, sports enthusiats can even be seen training on the stairs of a famous mosque at the ocean.
