Atchafalaya Autumn

Atchafalaya Autumn is a series of photographs I made while kayaking along the bayous of the Atchafalaya Basin in November 2017. All photos are made handheld from the kayak. This was not easy in these low light conditions, and demanded a lot of practice in manoeuvring the kayak very slowly and precisely in the right direction to achieve the desired compositions. Also, I did not want to cause unwanted riples in the water. It is a pristine and fragile environment, and very secluded. The silence and the solitude is very relaxing for the mind.

Nature & culture photographer, based in Belgium. Special interest in deserts, Africa, and the polar regions. Also deeply fascinated by Europe’s nature, and the vanishing cultures and traditions around the world. Creating compelling images that she hopes will not leave people untouched is the main goal. In that way she wants to raise awareness and contribute to protection and conservation.
