Water.Colours

Water.Colours, an on-going body of work, is focused on making
lyrical images of the sea.

Throughout the history of art, the sea has had a metaphorical impact in expressing our emotions and fears. The sea is mutable, sublime, sustaining yet destructive. She has many moods, which change in an instant.

I use a toy camera lens adapted to a sophisticated digital camera body. This lens creates images reminiscent of Pictorialist ideals of photography with emphasis on the beauty of the subject matter, tonality and composition rather than the documentation of reality.

Maybe a passion for art is hereditary. In my case I think that is true. At a very young age my grandmother began telling me stories about her grandfather, a famous artist from Paris. These stories began to shape an early passion for art.

As an adult I studied graphic design at Art Center and for 30 years worked in the advertising field. In 2008, I began experimenting with photographic lenses that would allow me to combine the aesthetics of my painting style with the immediacy of a photograph.
