Witnesses of Time

Former Yugoslavia produced a genuinely specific monuments and memorials that linked the memory of WWII to the promise of the future. These modernist structures, built both by the state and local communities, were not only commemorating and honoring the victims but they were also symbols of reconciliation and modern progress. Today, most these spaces of collective memory are decaying witnesses of the passage of time. Even though history repeats itself they are silently saying: Don’t let it happen again.

This work is a collaboration between architect Sanja Vrzić and filmmaker Diogo Pereira.
