Mali's rubbish camp

Near the international airport of Bamako, the capital of Mali, a camp was erected a year ago on a garbage dump. About1000 Peul, also called Fulani, live there. The children play barefoot in the dirt between tents gathered together with cloth and plastic. The smoke never goes away. Many have lung problems and infections. Some are malnourished.

The Fulani fled away from the center and north of the country. They are shepherds roaming around with their cattle. The ongoing war in Mali fuelled conflicts with the farmers of the Dogon ethnicity. Fulani and Dogon receive weapons from other groups.
