Baskunchak lake is one of the saltiest in the world. It is located in the arid steppe of Russia. Geologically the lake is a dent on the top of a giant salt dome, going deep into the Earth for ten kilometers. The salt in it is crystal clear. Water in the lake is replenished by more than 25 underground springs, which contain a variety of salts and minerals. This diversity defines absolutely unusual beauty of the lake's surface, which can be seen only from an altitude.
