Herbarium
In this series of herbs, I wish to combine the style of 16th, 17th and 18th
Century botanical painting with that of the detail found in scientific
illustration. I want to explore positive and negative space. To combine
different areas of focus which will result in a multi-dimensional image. To
show the unique structure and shape of each chosen herb. To produce
and explore a modern form of Botanical art.
Anne Mason-Hoerter, a Canadian photographer, delves into the intriguing effects of time on our memory. Her unique approach involves capturing images of botanical or food items over a specific time period, resulting in a multitude of individual photos. She then weaves these images together, recreating the subject solely from her memory. Anne's reliance on her recollection to convey the unique essence of the food or botanical item that has stayed with her over time is a fascinating journey into the human mind.
