Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa is well known for its black mambas,
especially in the Ballito area where human population expansion and
encroachment on this reptile’s habitat has caused increased human
interaction with this species. I have joined on several occasions
conservationists Neville Wolmarans and Helen Bauermeister on rescue
missions to save black mambas. They are briefly submitted to data
capturing and then released shortly after in an appropriate and safe
habitat. This photo was taken during such a process.
