Every year Menomonie, WI holds a candlelit ski trail event on the Red
Cedar Trail. The trail follows the Red Cedar River for over 14 miles
until it merges with the Chippewa River. It was January, the
temperature was -25 degrees. I walked along the edge of the
candlelit trail in the night until I made it to the ice wall. I set up my
camera and waited for the crowds to clear. Couple after couple skied
up to the lights, embraced each other, kissed and left. I waited to
have the trail all to myself to begin my exposure. Listening to the river
rush past me in the night and the glow from the lights on the snow it
set about a romantic mood to the scene.
