Calla lily portraits

  • Prize
    Bronze in Nature/Flowers
  • Photographer
    Gregoris Mentzas, Greece

The beauty of calla lilies offers numerous interpretations. Is their shape like a wave
coming toward you, or is it like a trumpet calling out to you? Their silk white surface
and subtle lines gives rise to sensual or even sexual interpretations.

For this series I was inspired by the work of Robert Mapplethorpe and his master printer
Tom Baril.

Gregoris Mentzas leads a double life as an academic professor and a fine art photographer. His work focuses on the concepts of time and decay, tranquility and silence. He strives to capture serenity and encapsulate the ephemeral quality of calmness.
