Pushkar Fair (Pushkar Camel Fair) or locally Pushkar ka Mela is an
annual five-day camel and livestock fair held in the town of Pushkar
in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is one of the world's largest
camel fairs. Apart from the buying and selling of livestock, it has
become an important tourist attraction. Competitions such as
the "matka phod", "longest moustache", and "bridal competition"
are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists.
[1] Herders from villages in and around Rajasthan (sometimes even
neighboring country of Pakistan) bring their camels to sell in the
fair. One of the greatest tourist attractions is a colorful religious
procession on the last day comprising of representatives from all
major religions in India in their traditional bright and colorful attire
passing through the by lanes of Pushkar. This series consists of few
images capturing the life of the herders and their family in Pushkar.
Also few glimpses from the procession.
