A Moment of Silence - A series of photographs that preserve
Nepal's majestic beauty prior to the devastating and destructive
force of the recent earthquakes and tremors.
1. NEPAL. Everest Region, Namche Bazaar. This is the largest
village in the Solukhumbu region, surrounding the epicentre of the
second 7.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal. Namche Bazaar
is known as the main trading center for the Khumbu region. It
rests at an altitude of 3,440m and is one of the main lodging
villages for the intrepid Mount Everest trekkers and professional
mountaineers.
2. NEPAL. Everest Region, Syangboche. This is the closest airstrip
to Mount Everest, resting at an altitude of 12,139ft. It is an
unpaved airstrip that services the village of Namche Bazaar, the
largest village in the Solukhumbu District of Nepal.
3. NEPAL, Everest Region, Everest Base Camp and Khumbu Glacier.
At 4,900 meters at its source, the Khumbu Glacier is the world's
highest glacier located at the start of the route to scaling Mount
Everest. Just beyond the Khumbu Glacier, between Camps I and II
lies the Khumbu IceFall where the avalanche occurred on April
18th, 2014, taking the lives of 16 sherpa guides in what many
have described to be modern mountaineering's deadliest single
tragedy.
