At Home On The Grand Canal is a ongoing photographic project that offers not only an
insight into the lives of the people and their environment, but it is also an exploration
and record of the boat culture on the Grand Canal, in County Kildare, Ireland. The
project covers the whole length of Grand Canal portraying an array of images: from
intimate portraits of families living on the boats, to poetic photographs of sunken wooden
boats which have been eaten away by the unforgiving passage of time.

All photographs were taken using an old Hasselblad 501 CM Camera and Kodak Portra 400
Professional Film.

Daniel Balteanu is an award winning photographer based in Co. Kildare, Ireland. Born in Romania, he moved to Ireland looking to expand his photographic vision and skills. With a Diploma in Film and Television and a Degree in Photographic Media, he works behind the camera in Film & Television, as well as with Documentary & Fine Art Photography.

Through his photographs, his intention is not only to capture the world as he sees it, but to convey an experience or impression of a certain moment in time. His main themes are based on solitude and tranquility - themes that could incorporate anything from landscapes to the human condition.
