Red: It's a nickname we gave her; you see, she used to have flaming red hair. It was also her favorite color. She was always wearing some sort of red. So one day we just decided to call her Red, like the color.
She is new to the neighborhood. Red dyed her hair to a dark brown not too long after her long-term boyfriend left her. Which is understandable, a lot of women like to change their appearance to show they've moved on to something else in their life. Her boyfriend, John, I never did see him carry a single box out of that house. He just up and left. Red took to staying inside her house more often. I sometimes visit, we have a few drinks, talk about life. I try to invite her out with the rest of us, but she always declines. I never see anyone else visit.
Poor thing, she's taken to planting flowers in her yard. She's been out there the past few days with a shovel or some kind of tool, walking to the back of her house. With that yard as big as hers, she could plant as many gardens as she wanted. At least she'll have something to take care of now. I guess we all have our ways with coping.
