Orphans at Ethandweni Children's Home in the Matopo area outside of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, run as the bell rings, indicating wash-time before their evening meal. Carol, an HIV+ child who was found months before, malnourished, unresponsive, covered in flies and scabs, glances back with interest.

Gabrielle Elkaim was raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She has worked in international development and human rights in Africa, and has a passion for organizing community arts projects. Elkaim is currently completing an Executive MBA at Johns Hopkins University and works at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Baltimore.
