Having arrived after dark at the beach in the Philippines, I went for
a walk, hoping to find something of interest to photography. As
luck would have it, I found a fire dance performance under way. I
worked through the crowd and set up my tripod. This one-second
exposure was one of the first images I captured, and was perhaps
my favorite of the entire four-month trip around the world. I like
the contrast of the apparent tranquility of the image with the
obvious kinetic energy of the actual event.
