Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings mainly
for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation or forced
labor. The buying and selling of humans is a growing criminal
business in the world. Million people are victims of forced
prostitution and labor.

Centrally located Cambodia is a sending, receiving and transit
country for transnational human trafficking in the Mekong
subregion. Victims often believe they are being recruited for the
purpose of domestic work, but mostly are forced into sexual
slavery. Approximately one-third of the women and girls in
prostitution in Cambodia are from Vietnam, Cambodians are
most commonly enslaved to Thailand and Malaysia for the
purpose of commercial sex, begging, domestic work, fishing
and construction.

Sandra Hoyn (b. 1976) is an independent photojournalist based in Hamburg, Germany. She studied photography at the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg, graduating in 2005. She started working for magazines, NGOs and on her personal photo projects, focusing on social, environmental and human rights issues.

Awards 2017 she received the first prize of the Sony World Photography Awards in category daily life and POYi – Pictures of the Year International third place category portrait. In 2016 she received the Magnum Photography Award in category photojournalism, 2015 World Press Photo Award third prize, category nature singles.
