Faces

Faces can be seen as a personal response to the overly familiar form of ‘foreign culture’ portrait. It is the contradiction of expectation of the viewer. The series questions the nature of the portrait, as well as explore its boundaries and parameters. While the face is typically seen
as the core of portraiture, and the centre of personal identity, these photographs toy with the idea that this need not necessarily be the case. Despite effectively eliminating the face, the subjects still clearly have their own identity. Are one’s surrounding’s and upbringings not really
the centre of one’s identity?
