The Cape Verdean community first came to Argentina by ship in 1898, fleeing from hunger and joblessness. They reached the port of Dock Sud (it was an important port at that time) and they settled there, because they already knew the port work, they had learned in the islands. As time went on they were having children, mingling with immigrants from other countries and taking part of the national identity.I was interested in this topic from the beginning because the black population in Argentina is almost zero. It is for this reason that people are very surprised when they see a black person. And even more when they discover they are not foreigners, but Argentine.
