Gonaives, Haiti

Gonaives Haiti continues to show signs of recovery from hurricane Gustave that flooded the streets and filled thousands of homes with up to a meter of mud. Clean drinking water continues to be an enormous problem due to the devastating floods that grossly contaminated thousands of wells. In some areas of the city hand pumps are still buried under mud.
Hands On Disaster Response is an organization that is working to mitigate future well contamination by installing cement ring platforms. The organization has helped train masons in the area so that the local community can continue producing these platforms in the future.
