There are few more challenging places to have a healthy childhood than Haiti; child mortality rates are, infact, the worst in the Western Hemisphere. Malnutrition, HIV, respiratory infections, tuberculosis, gastroenterite, diarrhea, and malaria are the leading causes of death. In addition thousands of Haiti?s children lead lives of daily struggle, have been orphaned by maternal mortality and HIV, abandoned, have limited access to healtcare, food, social services and education, are victims of violence and abuse and are forced to work as unpaid servants.
