Mannerist Frescoes of the Auric Abyss is a Neo-Mannerist monograph of assisted self-portraits mapping the male form within underwater caverns. Conceived by photographer Kelly William Wright with the shutter tripped by oceanic artist Marie-Claude Boutet, the plates use the artist’s own athletic physique as a canvas. Illuminated in gold tones against deep dark voids, the compositions explore a timeless gender chameleonism and surreal, gravity-defying aquatic physics. The work is achieved 100% in-camera through pure optical performance without generative AI, digital manipulation, or compositing.

Kelly William Wright is an internationally recognized and collected photographic artist based in Tampa, Florida. Spanning over 30 years, his exhibited career includes early representation by Nuance Galleries and Lawrence Charles Galleries, culminating in his 2009 solo exhibition, "21 Works From Beyond the Hill."

Following a nine-year immersion in investment-grade vintage photography as a commercial gallerist, Wright returned to his creative practice in 2018. This acclaimed "second act" has earned over 250 international awards, pushing the boundaries of contemporary fine art photography.
