Camels are driven overland from Djibouti to Egypt, then sold to butchers, restaurants, and tour operators near the pyramids. The market is still promoted as a cultural attraction, but the reality on the ground is different. Here, animals are handled roughly. Commerce runs on terms most visitors are not prepared to witness. A place of violence dressed as spectacle.
