When viewing much photographic work, the viewer’s intuition is often pushed into the background. With Karel Mus’s work, the opposite is true.
In his attempt to photograph the past, reality dissolves into abstraction. The images detach themselves from the tangible world and invite the viewer not to analyse, but to feel; to surrender to intuition and reverie. Distraction recedes into the background, creating space for the imagination to roam freely.
Each image functions as a blank canvas onto which thoughts, memories and impressions can be projected.

Karel Mus is a Belgian artist born in Bruges, living in Aalter. Although he is a self-taught photographer for a long time, he only started showing his work to a bigger public in 2015, after he also graduated as a professional photographer. That was the point for him to start exhibit his work too.

He became quickly successful and in a short time he won several awards and participated to several exhibitions. He organizes exhibitions too.

April 2021: he has been awarded with the Landscape Silver Camera
in the Professional Photographer of the Year competition organized by
The Federation of European Photographers.
May 2021: exhibition "Unknown Masterpieces" in Knokke-Heist.
Sept 2021: exhibition "Nature is Art" in Meise.
Dec 2021: exhibition "Aspects of a Landscape" in Brugge.

Jan 2022: Finalist at LICC (LONDON INTERNATIONAL CREATIVE COMPETITION).
Selected from all the Shortlisted entries, the jury recognized my work as
one of the finest in the 2022 London International Creative Competition.
May 2022: 8 works received a award from the FEP in Rome.

April 2023: Finalist in Prague at the Professional Photographer of the Year competition by The FEP.
June 2023 : MASTER Qualified European Photographer!
