In the series, I re-photograph my grandfather’s archives following his passing in 2023. I revisited the specific corners of our hometown, Yilan, Taiwan, that he had captured twenty to thirty years ago, recapturing them from his original perspective. I observe "the way he observed". I sense the scenery he once witnessed as he stood where I now stand, and I observe how our hometown has transformed over the decades—a landscape that evolved while I was away, living in the UK, Tokyo, and Taipei since 2000. By standing at his exact point and looking through lens, our visions overlap across time.

Leonne Chen was born in Yilan, Taiwan, and is currently based in Taipei, Taiwan. I studied in Bath, UK, and worked in Tokyo and Taipei. Photography for me is about seeing and observing, and the camera is the tool of my creation. Through the camera, I continue to see, learning from what I see how to see, and reflecting on what it means to observe.
