I photographed this cloudscape in Tuscany's Val d'Orcia at the end of the day. The sunset produced a brilliant purple cloudscape, with the sun hitting a solitary tree at just the right angle. As I looked upon this scene, Stefano Mancuso, the Italian botanist, came to mind: "A solitary tree can symbolize a person who, despite everything, resists, indomitable against the arrows of adversity." A detail I love about this image is the tree on the far right, which features a tire swing. I imagine a small child swinging under the tree, enjoying a spring day under the Tuscan sun.
My work explores the landscape and environment as a sensory experience rather than as documentation. I am interested in how color and atmosphere shape perception, allowing a place to be felt, remembered, and internalized. Beauty is not treated as an endpoint, but as a language; one capable of carrying meaning, restraint, and emotional depth. Through color, atmosphere, and softened form, I translate the felt experience of place.
