While on a Shoebill tour in Uganda (June 2025), I captured this close-up portrait from a wooden canoe just 5 meters away. Leaning over the side with my camera nearly touching the water, I waited for the bird to look straight at me. In a split second, it did—and I captured this moment. Cropping and selective masking helped shape the final image.
