I took this photo in a small regional park along the San Francisco Bay.
I grew up in rural poverty in the California High Desert. One of my escapes was exploring the lands around me and finding beauty in a place many people considered barren. I want to show people the land around them can be just as beautiful and inspiring as any National Park.
Jane Waterbury is a San Francisco-based photographer known for intriguing, bleak photography. She documents the similarity between human impact on the landscape and nature's own work. Her years growing up in the monochromatic vistas of the Mojave Desert instilled in her an ability to recognize incremental change.
