This photograph captures a striking moment during the annual pilgrimage of Mazu, the venerated sea goddess, as she rides atop a gilded palanquin emerging from the legendary Beigang Chaotian Temple. Illuminated by neon lights and guarded by fierce celestial generals, the palanquin advances through clouds of incense and the echo of drums—carried on the shoulders of devoted believers, each step a vow of loyalty.
