Out of place

After the industrial crisis, many European cities turned to tourism. Parks, meant for public enjoyment, are increasingly sold off for private-profit events, disrupting residents with noise and crowds.
When Turin moved the TOdays indie festival to a protected Po River area near Italy’s only urban grey heron nesting site, citizens protested.
Officials later admitted the environmental impact was excessive, leading to the event’s cancellation the following year. This time, the citizens rejected the exploitation of public assets for interests that bring no benefit to the community.

Marioluca Bariona lived in Turin, Ventimiglia, and Genoa, where he graduated in nursing.
As an activist, he uses photography as a medium to raise awareness around social and environmental issues.
He prefers a concrete photographic language aimed at revealing a collective, choral reality in which identities merge to show common values, demands, needs.
