Once envisioned as seaside vacation villas, the UFO Houses in Wanli,Taiwan were inspired by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen’s modular designs. The project was abandoned in the 1970s due to the oil crisis, leaving behind a surreal landscape of forgotten, disc-shaped structures.
Now over fifty years old, many face demolition and redevelopment. As they fade from the physical world, their cultural presence only deepens. Paradoxically, a vacation villa that never truly "existed" in the way it was meant to, is now remembered more vividly than ever.
To disappear is to truly exist.
