Sunsetting 64 megatons examines SASOL's Secunda facility—the world's largest single-point greenhouse gas emitter—as it faces inevitable closure amid climate imperatives and depleting coal. Returning in 2024 to where I worked as an AI contractor in 2018, I collaborate with local communities navigating this transition. The work confronts the collision between environmental necessity and economic dependency, exploring how industrial shutdown will reshape both landscape and livelihoods in a region defined by extraction.
