Over more than ten years, I photographed six cities—San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Shanghai, Wuhan, and Chongqing—using panoramic black-and-white to strip away visual excess and reveal the soul beneath the skyline. Without color, these urban portraits speak of structure, density, rhythm, and silence. Tokyo’s towering grid contrasts with LA’s sprawling openness; Chongqing climbs in layered chaos, while Shanghai gleams with calculated precision. Each image is a study in character—an attempt to present cities without masks, exposing their temperament and quiet force.
