“A Sign of Life” reflects the infinite and cyclical nature of being. The image captures a torn, poster-covered wall in Soho that reveals a blue, dove like figure just above center. The dove appears to carry something in its beak - something I imagined to be the olive branch from the story of the Great Flood. I used color, light, and composition to express the paradox of simultaneous destruction, creation, and connection - a paradox that lives within all things.
Sam Rittenberg lives and works in New York City and the Dominican Republic. His primary interest is in a photograph's power to convey the infinite and paradoxical nature of being. He is guided by the idea that every picture has the potential to be a portal to that which is ordinarily beyond us.
