In bullfighting, the protagonists stand alone: one against one. Only their own strength counts — independence and solitude at once. In the Course Camarguaise it is not a matter of life, but of honor: The pearl-adorned ladies raise their glasses to the men who managed to snatch a ribbon from the bull and ignore the loser. The contest begins before the fight: during the entrance, the opponents discreetly size each other up out of the corner of their eye. This is followed by a staring contest: whoever blinks first or shows weakness has lost.
Afterwards only courage, strength and agility count.
I aim to evoke emotions through my photography. My core topic is "solitude", which explores the two facets of being alone: self-chosen independence on the one hand or the feeling of unwanted loneliness on the other. In my pictures it is often in the eye of the beholder whether a photo is perceived as an expression of independence or loneliness.
My pictures share the authentic pursue for simplicity with the Swiss style in graphic design. They combine the calm of geometry with the dynamic of asymmetry. The focus on the essential is supported by the use of White Space and bold contrasts.
