I had always wanted to photograph the spiral staircase at the historic Point Loma Lighthouse in Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego, California. My original plan was to capture the classic top-down view during a quiet midweek visit. But upon entering, a small opening at the base of the staircase caught my eye. Curiosity took over, and when I looked up through it, I saw the spiral rising dramatically to the top. I crouched down to frame the shot as visitors passed by, likely wondering what I was doing. In the end, I was thrilled with the unexpected perspective and the final result.
I am Morris Asato or ‘Morey’ to some of my friends and an amateur photographer from San Diego, California.
I have been using photography as a creative outlet for several years. As you can see from my images, I do cover a variety of subjects but the one element I try to bring to my composition is some blend of art and photography. Since a lot of my images are creative expressions of what I sense and visualize, the term creative art photography probably sums it best.
My hope is that my images connect with others who can sense the feeling I was trying to convey.
