George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police on May 25, 2020. Residents of Minneapolis and many other cities responded to the institutional racism the murder epitomized with large demonstrations seeking accountability for numerous police killings, as well as changes to police deployment and methods intended to make police brutality less likely. The protests also supported the Black Lives Matter movement.
