In Finland, the child who loves to play in the water is called "vesipeto". It roughly translates as "water beast". Playing in the water stimulates all the senses, but it is not just important for fun. Swimming is an essential civic skill in the Land of a Thousand Lakes. There are approximately 200 active swimming halls in Finland.
