Sable Island is a small moon-shaped archipelago off the shore of Nova Scotia. Its access is protected by the Government of Canada. The only inhabitants are bird, seals and approximately 500 horses. Introduced to the island in the late 1700s, descending from horses seized by the British during the expulsion of the Acadians, these horses became feral and later faced extinction due to private use, sale for slaughter, and habitat limitations. In 1960, the Canadian government legally protected these horses in their feral state.
Hélène McGuire is an award-winning photographer who specializes in horses, street, Black & White fine art prints to as well as portraits that capture the unique essence of each individual.
With a passion for images, storytelling, and an eye for detail, Hélène creates timeless and elegant art inspired by her European roots. Born and raised in Paris, France in a family of art lovers, travelers and world-culture seekers, she finds beauty in authenticity, grit and observation. She has been living in the United States with her husband, three children and two dogs since 2005.
