The Sun King's Pleasure Palace

I love the formal design of French gardens, based on symmetry and the principle of imposing order over nature. The epitome of this style is by some considered to be the Gardens of Versailles, created during the 17th century.

Châteaux de Marly is also sometimes referred to as Châteaux de Versailles and is not to be confused with the Palace. It was created by Louis XIV (aka The Sun King) and the work took more than five years to complete.

The Châteaux was demolished after the French Revolution and today only vestiges of the central pavilion, a pond, a lake and its yew trees remain.
