The Places I (Long To) Go

"The Places I (Long To) Go" opens the curtains to the cavities of my mind. Being a bystander of violence has corroded my sense of safety and grounding, leaving me with unpredictable consequences as I grapple with death. In this delivery of the confidential I offer my perspective of coping with post traumatic stress; spending time physically engaging with my psyche. In these analog, large format self portraits I use props as sensory stimuli to ground myself in my body, and record train of thought, dreams, and poetry on a hand held cassette recorder to accompany the images.

Megan Sinclair uses self-portraiture to explore her relationship with body, mind, and environment. Her large format, analog photography documents the time that she spends in both indoor and outdoor privacy in an ongoing discussion of identity, consciousness, connection to place, and mental health. She graduated with her Bachelor’s of Photography in 2020 from California State University, Sacramento, and has since exhibited in galleries across the country and internationally as well as been published online and in print. She is currently based in Portland, Oregon, USA.
