Honorable Mention / 2023 / Portraiture / Children

Insula

Insula is the lost island of childhood. With my camera, I capture the process of growing up of my children and the invisible border that arises between us. Children build their own world, I learns to let go and to accept.

In this process I relive my own period of growing up, in which a significant place was occupied by the experience of the absence of boundaries, subjectively perceived then as the absence of love.

Landscape — the territory where children live and grow up, acts as a separate character in the project and plays an important role.

Photographer, visual artist, live and work in Moscow (Russia).

I assign an important role to the economy of narration in both visual and meaningful senses, leaving to the viewer a space for imaginative perception. Great importance I attach to the shooting space, often making the landscape a separate character.

In my photoprojects I explore topics related to the borders of territories and peoples.

As an artist, I formulate my task in directing camera lens to where it is painful and unpleasant to look and in showing there is still some beauty in it.
