Midnight Sunset

I had a small window of opportunity while camping out in the Antarctic Peninsula to capture the sunset around midnight. Sunrise would happen a couple of hours later. The night was clear instead of overcast. After waiting patiently, subtle pink and yellow hues emerged like a wave across the sky, falling on the ice around me. The colourful light was fleeting and soon gave way to the bright blue light of daybreak. To accentuate the stillness and serenity of the place I used a long exposure. The sculptural form and texture of the ice reminded me of meringues. I could almost imagine eating them.
